A true Southern mansion built in 1818, Monmouth Plantation was the home of General John A. Quitman, a Secessionist sympathizer who – although he died before the Civil War – was sufficiently notorious that Union troops nearly destroyed the house in revenge.
Today, Monmouth Plantation has been restored to its Antebellum glory, and offers period furnishings in its rooms and suites; some of them belonging to the original mansion.
